Curriculum
All of our actions in school are informed by our guiding principles that form the ‘Pennoweth DNA’.
Our curriculum is no exception to this and is planned and delivered within the framework created by the guiding principles. We firmly believe that to be in the best place to progress, children need to feel safe, loved and able to take responsibility for their own learning. We also know that vocabulary is the key to unlocking communication and work to ensure that children know the importance and power of their words.

As we have now opened our new build, we will begin a transition away from mixed year group teaching. For the year 2023-24, year 1 will follow the new single year group curriculum. The rest of the school will continue to follow our original curriculum overview. We are in Cycle A of our 2 year rolling curriculum programme during the academic year 2023-24.

Year 1 – We will be developing as Scientists and Geographers through our project Splendid Skies
Year 2 – We will be developing as Historians and Artists through our project Superheroes
In Year 3/4 – We will be developing as Historians and Geographers through our project Gods and Mortals
In year 5/6 – We will be developing as Historians and Artists through our project Revolution

The leaflets give a brief overview of our topic and some specific key facts and vocabulary that the children will be learning so you can discuss these at home. We have also included some suggestions for home learning to help prepare the children for the topic and / or consolidate their knowledge. Please do encourage your children to bring their home learning into school so that we can share it with the class and celebrate their achievements
